Why 'Bean'?
Coffee of course
Coffee is a fuel for most hardworking businesses but here at Big Bean Audio we always have to go further and get fanatical about the things we do! We have turned our addiction into a passion (sounds better don’t you think?) and thus the company name was born. We import only the finest raw coffee from the best coffee farmers around the world. We then roast and brew our coffee daily, in the kitchen here at Big Bean House. We have the creation of the perfect cup down to a fine art, it’s yummy and it certainly helps us get through the unsociable hours of the studio musician. Maybe that’s why we’re such energetic, enthusiastic, motivated and driven people.
Generally we do not blend; preferring a single estate for most coffee types. We roast small batches daily; just enough for one day’s drinking. The secret of a good quality roast is in the cooling; it must be immediate and free from moisture. We have a secret propriety technique derived from experiments in high end CPU cooling. After that, the coffee is sealed in an air tight container and kept in the fridge. The breakdown of the sugars in the bean needs about 20 hours to set and rest before the flavour is mature, so we always drink from the previous day’s roast and roast each day, for the next. We have tasted the very best coffees prepared at some of the most prestigious coffee houses around the world (no names mentioned here) and can honestly say that none can even compare to our own. However, don’t be fooled; Music is what we’re most passionate about, and best at!
It is amazing to see who else in history had major passions for coffee, and to think where the world would be if these influential people did not have their favourite stimulating beverage to aid them. J.S. Bach (!), Beethoven, Byron, T.S. Eliot, Churchill, Dr Johnson (who wrote the first English dictionary). We leave you with some of our favourite quotes:
"The powers of a man’s mind are directly proportioned to the quantity of coffee he drinks."
Sir James Mackintosh (1765-1832)
"When we drink coffee, ideas march in like the army."
Honore de Balzac (1799-1850)
"No one can understand the truth until he drinks of coffee's frothy goodness."
Sheik Abd-al-Kadir
"Coffee: creative lighter fluid."
Floyd Maxwell (1957-)
"Without my morning coffee I'm just like a dried up piece of roast goat."
Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750)
"Sleep is a symptom of caffeine deprivation."
